Discover the beauty of the English countryside on our Cotswolds Day Tour from Birmingham, visiting some of the most picturesque villages and historic towns in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Known for its rolling hills, charming market towns, and honey-coloured stone cottages, the Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful regions in England and a must-visit destination for travellers.
Our journey begins in the historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, one of the highest towns in the Cotswolds. The town is centred around a large historic market square filled with independent shops, traditional pubs, and antique stores. Stow-on-the-Wold has been an important trading centre for centuries and was also the site of the final battle of the
English Civil War in 1646. While exploring, you can see the famous Porch House, often referred to as “England’s oldest pub”, wander through charming courtyards, and admire the beautiful church door said to have inspired Tolkien’s Doors of Durin.
Next, we visit the medieval town of Burford, often called the “Gateway to the Cotswolds”. Burford is one of the most well-preserved historic towns in England, with many buildings along its steep high street dating back more than 500 years. During your stop, you can explore traditional shops, enjoy the historic atmosphere, and visit the impressive Church of St John the Baptist (when no ceremonies are taking place).
Our tour continues to the iconic village of Bibury, widely considered the most beautiful village in England. Bibury is famous for Arlington Row, a picturesque row of 14th-century weavers’ cottages that has become one of the most photographed locations in the Cotswolds. The village also appeared in the fantasy film
Stardust. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the River Coln, visit the historic St Mary’s Church established in the 8th century, and explore the peaceful countryside surrounding the village.
Our final stop is the charming riverside village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often called the “Venice of the Cotswolds” thanks to its small stone bridges crossing the River Windrush. Here you will have plenty of free time to explore the village, enjoy lunch, and stroll along the beautiful riverside paths. You may also visit popular attractions such as Birdland Park & Gardens, the Cotswold Motoring Museum, or the charming Model Village Bourton-on-the-Water.
This Cotswolds day trip from Birmingham is the perfect way to experience the region’s most famous villages, historic landmarks, and stunning countryside in one unforgettable day.
After that, the tour returns to the meeting point in Birmingham city centre.
